Doc-To-Help has had robust Team Authoring support for quite some time, but with the release of Doc-To-Help 2010, we’ve added a new feature that many have requested: integration with Microsoft’s Team Foundation Server (TFS) source control.

It just takes a few clicks to add a documentation project to a TFS repository, and every member of the team can work with the project and take advantage of the new options. In addition, using TFS makes it possible for documentation and code to be stored in the same location, something many companies prefer because it streamlines processes.

The Doc-To-Help Team Authoring ribbon has been redesigned to add the new TFS features, as well make document check in/check out easier and quicker. The new options available when using TFS include:

Get Specific Version — You can search the archives for a specific version of a file and retrieve it if you wish.
Locking — You have two locking options that give you complete control over the check in/check out of files. These options make branching or creation of multiple versions possible.
Compare Documents — You can compare the document you are working on with one that is stored in the archives – or even compare two archived documents. You can also merge documents.
Commenting — You can add your own notes when checking in a file. These notes are saved to the document history.
Document History — You can view a history of all the changes made to each document, including comments.
Document Properties —You can view the properties of each document via right-click.

If you are interested in using Team Authoring but don’t have TFS, you can still use Doc-To-Help Team Authoring and manage your projects on your network or on the web. See Working on a Team for details.
