I started a new project, imported an existing file which is a docx file. The docx file was added to the left side of the window. Then I selected HTML help as my target, then clicked Build and receive error msg "Failed to create empty document."
I am trying to convert an existing word doc into a searchable manual to include within our software.
Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

With reference to your query, I would like to know from you that
1) The same issue happens with other help targets as well, e.g. Manual, NetHelp
2) Is the issue replicated on creating a new document and re-building it?
Copy the DOT files from
C:\Program Files\ComponentOne\DocToHelp\Templates\Startup
To:
C:\Users\ USERNAME \App Data (Hidden Folder)\Roaming\Microsoft\Word\STARTUP
C:\Program Files\ComponentOne\DocToHelp\Templates\User\Word2007
C:\Users\ USERNAME \App Data (Hidden Folder)\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates
3) Kindly check with an existing project to see if the issue is replicated on importing the project

I implemented your actions, but it is still doing the same thing. It is doing it with existing and new projects. The error message says "Failed to Create Empty Document."
I also tried this with the Sample projects and it did the same thing.
Can you let me know what version of word currently installed on the machine, please note that we do not recommend installing two different version of word on the single machine.
Also can you let me know what version of Doc-To-Help you are using at your end?
