    Visual Studio 2008 == endgame

    I decided to install VS2k8 and try to get ComponentOne to install with it, figured it should work straight across like the VS2k5 components.  I was wrong.  It gets the following error:

    Error 1720.  There is a problem with this installer package.  A script required for this install to complete could not be run.  Contact your support personnel or package vendor.

     Custom Action Get_VS8_Install_Dir Script error -21416828275

    Guess I'll have to install VS2k5 (I actually repaved my machine yesterday for other reasons, decided to go straight with VS2k8) -- probably do that in a virtual machine because I'm not keen on mix/match my new Windows installation.

    So -- when can we expect ComponentOne studio to be installable to VS2k8?

    Hi Fooberman,

     We are targeting full VS2008 compatibility with our 2008v1 release which is planned for the February-March timeframe (still in the planning stages). In the meantime, if you would like to send an install log for this problem to our support team, we can investigate this error and see if we can resolve the problem sooner. Of course, if you've already gone back to VS2005, I realize that won't be possible.

    Thanks!

    Re: Visual Studio 2008 == endgame

    I was able to install the DEMO installer for the .Net 2.0 components by adding the required entries to the registry. Here they are; they basically fake out the installer by making it think that the VS2008's program files directory is VS2005's...

     Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\VisualStudio\8.0\Setup\VS]
    "ProductDir"="C:\\Program Files\\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\\"
    "EnvironmentDirectory"="C:\\Program Files\\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\\Common7\\IDE\\"

    Like I said, this enabled the installer to run. After the installer ran, it runs another program: the program that asks you to register the product, which crashed. However, the product was installed, all of the demos worked and I was able to add the C1 components to my toolbox in VS2008. I was able to use the components to my satisfaction.

    Hi Wayne,

    I'm glad to hear that you were able to get the setup installed. Due to the demand for VS2008 compatibility, we are working on a version of our 2007v3 setup that will work on machines with only VS2008 installed. Right now, I don't have a release date, but it should be within 4-6 weeks, if not sooner. Thanks!

     Has a version of 2007T3 been release that works with VS2K8? And is there an updated release date for 2008T1?

     hi Greif,

    Our 2008v1 release will be Feb. 27th. At that time we will have setups that work with VS2008.

    Thanks!

    Hi John -- I'm trying to download the 2008v1 release but everytime I click on the download button it is trying to download 2007v3 instead (see the attached pic.)  Is 2008v1 ready yet or is there a new ETA?

    Hi All,

    I have the same problem with downloading a new version of C1 Studio Enterprise.

    I could download "C1StudioWPF_T108_Setup.exe" with a correct release number (...T108 !) only !,

    Re: Visual Studio 2008 == endgame

    John -- Maybe I'm not getting the correct version of the installer for .Net Windows Forms controls 2 (C1StudioNET2_T108_Setup.exe) but...

    1.  I did not see anything specific to VS2008 in the installation process.  The installer has a checkbox to install components to VS2005 toolbox but not to VS2008.

    2.  Quite a few controls installed by the C1StudioNET2_T108_Setup.exe installer are still versioned from 2007v3.

        TrueDBGrid for .Net 2.0
        Flexgrid for .Net 2.0
        Preview for .Net 2.0
        Classic Preview for ..Net 2.0
        Spell for .Net 2.0
        Sizer for .Net 2.0
        Reports for .Net 2.0
        Menus and Toolbars for .Net 2.0
        Zip for .Net 2.0
        PDF for .Net 2.0
        Input for .Net 2.0
        List for .Net 2.0
        XLS for .Net 2.0
        SuperToolTip for ..Net 2.0
        Ribbon for .Net 2.0
        C1Schedule for .Net 2.0

    Do I not have the correct version of the installer or will there be another installer released when the 2008v1 version of these controls are ready?  Same with installer for VS2008 toolbox items.

    Thank you,

    John,

    Barring the new WPF controls, the package you download from there ultimately installs the exact same components provided in the original "2007 Q3" release:

    Re: Visual Studio 2008 == endgame

    Hi all,

     The 2008v1 release was focused on the WPF controls, but it did also add compatibility for the installers to work in VS2008. We will be adding a toolbox option for VS2008 in the 2008v2 release in June.

    New 2008v1 (and soon 2008v2) controls are available from http://prerelease.componentone.com/ or through the C1 Live Update utility.

    Thanks!
