    ActiveX license issue

Is anyone else having a problem with KB947864 and licensing with the activeX controls?

I've inherited an activex project with an embedded grid and chart that is then displayed through IE 7.  If the windows update is installed, the control will show the licensing nag screens.  If the update isn't installed, the control works as it's had for years.

Has anyone experienced this or has a work around?

    Hello,

Regarding your query, could you provide the operating system environment at your end? In case you are using Win-XP, you can try the following steps:

    1. Distribute LPK file for the controls and user controls being used in the application. (LPK file can be created using the LPK Tool)
    2. Distribute the cab file for the ocx.
    3. The LPK file must be present in the same directory in which your HTML/ASP file is residing.
    4. The URL of the cab file generated should be correct.
    5. Also, note that in order to ensure that the CAB and LPK files are properly deployed, testing the page on a machine which has not accessed that page and doesn't have chart control installed on it will yield a prompt to download the CAB file for the control.

In case the chart control is used as a stand-alone control kindly take note of the following points:
    1) The cab file generated should contain the reference of the control.
    2) You need to distribute LPK file of Chart control generated via the LPK tool with the project.

You would also require .cab files for chart control to be used on Internet, let me know if you require that as well.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Gary

The control is ran via Internet Explorer 7 on Windows XP/Windows Server 2003 R2.

Well the problem is that the chart and grid have been working fine as controls within a project for years upon years.  It's only after the above mentioned windows update that we started having the license nag issue.  If we remove the windows update, the problem goes away and everything works again. We have no way to pull the update back out.

I even sign the cab file and it's trusted throughout our organization.

I've recompiled the OCX, repackaged the project, rebuilt the LPK file, and resigned the cab file with no luck.  I've even tried a little voodoo and a lucky rabbitt's foot.  It just will not stop the nag screen if KB947864 is installed.

    Hello,

Have you tried the same with a different web browser (other than IE7) ?

ActiveX controls do not work in Firefox and/or Netscape.

Having me try this in IE 6 or Firefox is just trying to avoid the issue.  We are an IE 7 shop for all of our internal applications.  Even if we were to remove this single IE 7 Cumulative Security Update, from what I've read, the next cumulative update will have all the previous updates which will still be a problem.

As well, from your forums it looks like there are 2 other people that are having the exact same problem.

    Thanks.

    Hello,

Have you try tried upgrading to the latest build ? The same can be downloaded from the following link.

You will a get a license nag screen if the control is used as evaluation/trial version or not licnesed. You would also require to license the control.

No such luck.  I upgraded to the latest version and I still have the same issue. But, I do get to see newer looking nag screens.

    Hello,

After upgrading to the latest version, did u also license the upgraded control using a valid license key or are you using the evaluation/trial version of the upgraded control ?

Becasue an evaluation/trial version of the control will also give you a license nag screen, till you license it using a valid license key.

    Hello,

Could you send across a sample project along with steps to replicate the issue and operating environment, because I could not replicate the issue at my end?
