    Topics Window - Conceptual Type

Hi, im new to Doc-to-Help and am in the process of evaluating it.

When i create a document and rebuild my project, the topics window is updated with 2 rows for this document.

One row for the document has a type of 'Conceptual' and the other has type 'Content'.

Can someone please explain the difference and what 'conceptual' is used for in relation to my project?

I have added the 'content' type topics to my TOC, but dont know what (if anything) i should be doing with the 'Conceptual' topics.

Also is there any way to update the topics list (window) with a newly created document without rebuilding the entire help?

    Thanks in advance

Re: Topics Window - Conceptual Type

    Hi,

There are two properties that varies between Conceptual and Contents Topic Types. The Auto Subtopic Links and the Suppress Empty Topics have different values for different Topic Types.

The Auto Subtopic Links (or AutoButtons in Doc-To-Help 2007) is True for Conceptual and False for Contents. The Suppress Empty Topics is True for Contents Topic Types and is False for conceptual Topic Types.

The Auto Subtopic Links, when True, displays subtopic buttons for paragraph styles with numeric outline levels greater than the parent level.

If Suppress Empty Topics is set to True, it omits topics defined with this paragraph style or topic type that have no text except heading from online help except in TOC.

This property is usually set to True in the Contents topic type that is commonly used for the top-level style, such as Heading 1. Top-level topics often do not contain any text, appear only in TOC as book titles containing lower-level topics. Then it is often preferable that these (empty) topics are not shown in the help window when the user selects the corresponding book title.

If you update the Topics pane and do not Rebuild the entire project, those changes will not take into effect.

I hope this would be helpful.

    Regards,

    John Adams
