Percentage Unit of Measurement
The Percentage is useful for defining widths and heights of render objects, and it allows you to define positions/sizes as in "percent of parent's extent." Horizontal positions/sizes are defined relative to the parent's width, while vertical positions/sizes are relative to the parent's height.
For objects appearing in different parts of a document, use the following rules to determine the parent:
• For an object in the block flow, the parent is the containing column.
• For a directly rendered object, the parent is the page body.
• For a column, the parent is the page body.
• For objects inside of a table's cell, the parent is the cell.
• For Header and Footer objects, the parents are the page Header and Footer respectively.
