You can customize the icons used for expanding and collapsing the hierarchy in a hierarchical display by using the GetImage and SetImage methods in the SpreadView class, which is described in Customizing the User Interface Images.

An example of how the default hierarchy icons, a simple plus sign and minus sign, appear is shown here.
