Installing a Sandbox Solution
If you cannot install ComponentOne Studio for SharePoint on
a server farm, you can request the Sandbox version and do a Sandbox
installation. To request a Sandbox version, email sandbox@componentone.com.
A Sandbox install has the following advantages:
- A site collection administrator who has the appropriate
rights (upload solutions) can deploy without involving IT.
- Nothing is added to the Global Assembly Cache
(GAC)
- It can be deployed on Microsoft Office 365.
Sandbox installs have the following drawbacks:
- The Save Web Part button is not included
in the On-Board Designer, so changes will be lost, unless saved using
SharePoint's Save function.
- You can only create connections between ComponentOne Web
Parts; you cannot create connections to other web parts. For more information
about connecting web parts, see Connecting Web Parts.
To install ComponentOne Studio for SharePoint Sandbox
Solution
After you have downloaded the installation file (C1WebParts_version
number.wsp):
- If a new version of ComponentOne Studio for SharePoint
Sandbox is available, download it and follow the install instructions. Once it
is listed in the Solutions Gallery, your version should be automatically
upgraded. If not, click the drop-down arrow next to the file name and choose
Upgrade.
- Choose Site Actions > Site
Settings.
- Under Galleries, choose
Solutions.
- Click the Solutions ribbon tab to expose
the toolbar buttons.
- Click the Upload Solution button on the
Solutions ribbon. In the Upload Document
dialog box, browse to the install file location. Click
OK. The install should activate immediately, if it does not,
click the drop-down arrow next to the file name and choose
Activate.
A few notes about the Sandbox Solution:
-
When you insert a web part on a page (see Adding a Web Part to a
Page), the sandbox web parts will appear in the Categories
list as ComponentOne Studio for SharePoint
(Sandbox).
-
The On-Board Designer will not include
the Save Web Part button. To save changes to your web part,
first make them in the OBD, then click the drop-down on the right of the Web
Part and choose Edit Web Part to open Sharepoint's
Properties List. Click OK. For details on the
Properties List, see Changing the Appearance of
Your Web Part.
-
If a new version of the ComponentOne Studio for SharePoint
Sandbox Solution is released, download and install it. If it does not
upgrade immediately, click the drop-down arrow next to the file name and
choose Upgrade. All of the web parts in the Sandbox that have
already been placed on pages will automatically upgrade.
